Marjie Schaefer
Author & Teacher
Marjie Schaefer believes the Word of God is relevant, powerful, transformational, and life-giving to every single human being on the planet. She has spent her life investing in others and inviting them to join her in this pursuit of deeper truth.
As a result of her passion and pursuit, she has spent decades teaching women of all ages how to dig into the Word of God, and how to mine the treasures of it for themselves. She started in college and has continued on as a wife and mom, opening her heart and her home to those who hunger and thirst for more of God and His Word in their lives.
Marjie currently leads the ministry, Flourish Through The Word, which is a community of women in the greater Seattle region committed to being equipped through God’s Word. At her Bible studies over 45 churches in our region are represented by the women attending. As a result of their time together in the Word, the women then move out into their arenas of influence, shining their lights for Jesus.
Marjie married her college sweetheart Steve (Go Cougs), and together they have four children and two grandchildren.
Our ministry's mission & vision
Mission
To equip women through God's Word to follow Jesus in a loving community and serve in the local church.
Vision
To raise up leaders able to teach the Bible (Hebrews 5:12-14), pastoring God's people (Jeremiah 3:15; Ephesians 4:11-13), to see the body of Christ unified in love across denominational and geographic borders (John 13:35).
To see the resources of Flourish (past and future) made available for all individuals and churches in every nation in their own language (Daniel 7:14; Matthew 24:14).
Expanding the ministry, reach, and resources of Flourish (Acts 1 :8) to include every man, woman, and child both locally and globally (Acts 1 :17-21 ).
Core Values
Worship
The first thing we do at every gathering is give praise and thanks to God. It's all about Him.
But the hour is coming, and now is, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth." (John 4: 23-24)
Equipping
Our teaching sessions and Bible study is all about being equipped with the Word of God so that we can live in the victory that is ours in Christ and be able to teach others to do the same.
"For the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and knowledge of the Son...." (Ephesians 4:12-13)
Unity
Our gatherings represent many different churches and denominations. We celebrate the things we share in common in Christ.
"By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." (John 13:35)
Community
Not only do we share in community at our gatherings, we take this love and compassion outwards into the greater community of our region to show and share the love of Christ with all people.
"And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me. ' (Matthew 25:40)
Friendship
Since our gatherings are centered on worship and the Word of God, two things emerge as a result: vulnerability with each other and trust. These are building blocks of friendship.
"No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things I have heard from My Father and I have made known to you." (John 15:15)
