Be Brave

We live in exciting and ever-changing days. Perhaps the daily news cycle of world events is discouraging, disillusioning, or maybe even frightening to you.

How do you cope with fear?

What does the Bible have to say about fear?

Better yet, what does the Bible have to say about being brave and courageous?

This study is a 5-week journey into Biblical stories of faith and courage in the face of fear. The study will also take you into the theology of bravery so that when your world is rocked by something unforeseeable, you can stand on your firm foundation of faith.

We will peer into the lives of Daniel, Moses, Abraham and Sarah, Paul and Timothy, and Jesus Himself, the bravest of of all.

Included in each week is a classic hymn to start each study time in worship, as well as modern-day stories of bravery to encourage you.

Let's all be brave together and step out in faith and obedience to find God waiting to meet us at every turn.

Session 1

In "Be Brave – Session 1," the focus is on living with the boldness that comes from recognizing and embracing God's goodness and promises. The session encourages believers to displace the enemy's lies with the truth of God's love, live with expectancy of His favor, and use their circumstances as opportunities to experience divine power. By focusing on God's provisions and being captivated by His character, we are empowered to be brave, trusting in His unfailing goodness to direct our lives.

Session 2

In "Be Brave – Session 2," the focus is on discerning God's signal amidst the noise of life, as illustrated by the story of David and the miracles of Jesus in Jerusalem. David serves as a model for rejecting the distractions of enemies by tuning into God's promises, while Jesus demonstrates the power of true spiritual insight through miracles that challenge religious blindness. The session emphasizes the importance of a mindshift towards expectancy of God's goodness, belief in Jesus, and worship as a response to His transformative power.

Session 3

In "Be Brave – Session 3," the central theme is the transformative power of God's Word, which frames our world and serves as a foundational force in our lives. The session highlights the significance of Psalm 91 in illustrating God's protection and encourages believers to place their faith in God's promises, despite circumstances or challenges. Emphasizing that true Bible faith involves obedient trust in God's Word, the session underscores that faith is not an exemption from trials but a means to navigate them with the assurance of God's unfailing love.

Session 4

In "Be Brave – Session 4," the focus is on life-upon-life ministry through the lens of brave enthusiasm, as exemplified in the relationship between Paul and Timothy. Despite Timothy's timidity and challenging circumstances in pastoring, Paul encouraged him to minister with enthusiasm rooted in a strong identity in Christ. The session emphasizes the importance of mentoring others in faith, overcoming fear with love, and relying on God's power to empower the process of spiritual growth and bravery in ministry.

Session 5

In "Be Brave – Session 5," the focus is on standing firm in faith, as exemplified by Daniel's unwavering commitment to God despite being captured and exiled by the Babylonians under Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel chose to remain faithful, refusing to defile himself with food offered to idols, and relied on prayer and God's Word for guidance and strength. This session emphasizes the importance of aligning oneself with God, praying earnestly, and trusting in His righteousness, even in the face of overwhelming challenges.

Session 6

In "Be Brave – Session 6," the session highlights the bravery of a woman who sought healing from Jesus, emphasizing that faith is an active disposition rather than a passive state. The woman's faith, sparked by testimonies, led her to reach out to Jesus, demonstrating that our focus should be on His power rather than our circumstances. The session encourages believers to maintain a lifestyle of remembering God's goodness, using Scripture to build faith and overcome discouragement.
