Sustenance
Sustenance is a study based on Peter's second letter to the church. The cover reflects the dynamic list of characteristics Peter gives in chapter one, as well as the fruits of the Spirit also included in this study. As we dive into this study verse-by-verse, we discover how deeply motivated Peter was to communicate the importance for believers in Jesus to stay engaged in a disciplined way of life. Peter urged believers (and still does through the living and active Word) to invest in intentional spiritual growth practices.

Session 1
This session highlights that sustenance means maintaining life and existence, with Jesus being the fulfillment of over 600 Old Testament prophecies as the Savior of the world. Despite their environment not aligning with Peter’s declaration of faith, believers are encouraged to trust that the Word is more reliable than circumstances. Peter's letters emphasize the importance of knowledge as a living relationship with the truth, underscoring that our faith in Jesus Christ provides righteousness, grace, and peace, essential for life and godliness.
Session 2
This session focuses on living earnestly in the truth, emphasizing that the truth of Jesus has been deposited within us and needs constant reminding. Peter urges diligence in remembering the truth, driven by obedience to Christ’s command and the desire to refresh readers' minds with God's Word, particularly highlighting the Transfiguration as a pivotal event to counter false teachings. The session underscores that while experiences are transient, the Word of God is unchanging and eternal, serving as the ultimate source of hope and light in a dark world.
Session 3
We explore the contrast between the false and the real as highlighted in 2 Peter 2, emphasizing the importance of deriving sustenance from the Word and making it our daily guide. Peter warns against false teachers who misrepresent the gospel and undermine true shepherds, urging believers to be grounded in God's Word to recognize and counteract these deceptions. The lesson underscores that God's power, the strength of His Spirit, and the truth of His Word equip us to stand firm, with the ultimate assurance of being kept safe in Jesus and having an inheritance reserved for us in heaven.
Session 4
Peter emphasizes the importance of pursuing maturity in our Christian lives with a deepening knowledge of Jesus, which strengthens our doctrine and prevents us from being led astray. Growth in our faith, marked by the seven virtues outlined in 2 Peter 1:5-7, requires daily interaction with Jesus and diligent study of the Word. Peter warns of scoffers and underscores that God's consistent work and His patience in fulfilling promises are meant to remind us to take His Word seriously and remain steadfast in our faith, knowing that Jesus is our salvation.
