Your Story Matters

The Lord has preserved for us a record that is filled with stories and examples so that we can learn from Him and how He worked in the lives of others. His Word is living and active and able to change us.

The best thing we can do to experience His transforming power is to dig into His Word for ourselves and to learn from those who have gone before us.
This study has us examining two Old Testament stories of Habakkuk, the prophet, and of David, the shepherd, warrior king. Both of these stories communicate life-changing principles for us today.

This study will equip us to cultivate daily habits of declaring the truth of God’s Word out loud, along with deliberate times of worship and praise.
You will discover that because it fits within God’s great Kingdom story!

Session 1

In "Rise Up and Press In—Session One," we explore the power of prayer as demonstrated by Esther, the role of the local church as a guiding light in the world, and the need for sound-mindedness and balance in our spiritual lives. The session emphasizes that the trials and divisions we face are opportunities for the Gospel to be formed within us, urging believers to communicate God's truth clearly and to be influencers who shape culture. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is presented as a transformative and unifying force that transcends all barriers, with a call to prioritize God's Word over personal opinions in our message to the world.

Session 2

In "Your Story Matters, Session 2," the focus is on understanding the Kingdom of God as an ongoing process in our lives, where we are encouraged to seek spiritual sight and align our lives according to God's divine order of spirit, soul, and body. The session emphasizes the importance of listening, applying basic truths, and committing our challenges to God in prayer, while also exploring the comforting truths found in Habakkuk about God's eternal nature, faithfulness, and the transformative power of worship. Ultimately, the session teaches that through the cross, we can trust in God's deep love and faithfulness, even in the midst of suffering.

Session 3

In "Your Story Matters, Week 3," the focus is on Habakkuk 2, where the prophet exemplifies the importance of waiting on God and listening for His voice. The session emphasizes the need to set ourselves apart from daily distractions, engage deeply with God's Word, and expect God to speak to us, highlighting that hearing from God is a birthright for every believer. The lesson also discusses the consequences of living without God, as shown in the "five woes," and the importance of faith and worship in seeking God's presence and guidance.

Session 4

In "Your Story Matters – Week 4," the session focuses on living by faith as illustrated in Habakkuk 2:4, emphasizing the importance of believing and acting upon God's Word. The discussion highlights the centrality of faith in the Christian life, breaking down the verse into three key components: "the just," "shall live," and "by faith," and how each is understood through the New Testament lens. The lesson reinforces that righteousness comes through faith in Christ, not through human efforts, and encourages believers to position themselves to hear from God regularly and trust in His promises.

Session 5

In "Your Story Matters – Week 5," the final session focuses on the power of prayer, storytelling, and worship as seen in Habakkuk 3. The lesson emphasizes that God is continuously writing His story, and the just shall live by faith, which is central to the book of Habakkuk. The session highlights the importance of prayer aligned with God's heart, the impact of sharing testimonies, and choosing joy and worship as a response to fear, ultimately leading to triumph in God's promises.

Session 6

In "Your Story Matters – Week 6," the session focuses on overcoming anxiety and fear through faith in God's promises. Jesus instructs us not to worry, reminding us that trust in God is key, and faith is strengthened by worship. As we grow in understanding God's care and provision, our anxiety diminishes, allowing us to live by faith rather than fear.

Session 7

In "Your Story Matters – Week 7," the session emphasizes the power of one obedient believer, anchored in the strength of Jesus Christ, to overcome life's giants. Using the story of David and Goliath as a metaphor, the session highlights the importance of relying on Jesus, our ultimate champion, who fights our battles and brings us victory. Through worship, confession, and daily reliance on God's Word, we acknowledge Jesus' sufficiency and allow His power to work in our lives.
